On Tuesday 26th November 2013, the South East Grid for Learning Associates organised a training and CPD day for Kent teachers focusing on the First World War.
The session looked at how teachers can build the stories and heritage of the First World War into their planning, making it interesting and engaging for their pupils, and linking it to the new National Curriculum. Nearly 40 Key Stage 1 & 2 teachers attended and feedback was very positive.
The first half of the day was led by Ian Coulson, former Kent County Council's History Advisor for Kent Schools. Below are copies of the handouts that he circulated as part of his lively presentation.
The SEGfL Associates have compiled links to useful online resources relating to the First World War that teachers, and others, are able to access.
As well as this, the SEGfL Associates have created the online interactive resource, ww1toolbox.org.uk. This is accessible to all South East schools on a subscription basis.
