Museum Volunteer Co-ordinators Forum – Tools and Tips for Better Ways of Working

Event Date:27 February 2020 10:00 am — 27 February 2020 4:00pm

Sir Daniel Gooch Theatre,

STEAM, Museum of the Great Western Railway, Swindon

This event, organised jointly by the South East & South West Museum Development programmes, will explore how you can deliver a more holistic volunteer offer.

You will hear good practice case studies about volunteering initiatives in both our regions, and learn about volunteer management tools that support museums’ volunteer programmes, directly from the museums using them.

The event is aimed at volunteer co-ordinators, or those managing volunteers – whether in smaller or larger museums – currently looking to develop their volunteer offer and the tools to manage this process effectively.

This training event is for museums within the South West and South East regions.

Key topics covered include:

Volunteering, Health & Wellbeing: the Still Curious Project at the Red House Museum, whose volunteers deliver a dementia and older people’s initiative.

Cross Cultural Volunteering: hear how Gloucester Culture Trust has integrated volunteering opportunities from across the town’s cultural venues and services under a single Volunteer Makers website.

Case studies about Better Impact, a volunteer management package: hear from a larger organisation using it, the Gardens, Libraries and Museums of Oxford University, as well as a smaller user, the Museum of East Asian Art in Bath.

We will also be hearing how museums are diversifying their volunteer workforce and capturing the wellbeing impact of museum volunteering through effective evaluation.

There will also be plenty of opportunities to network, talk to suppliers of volunteer management tools and meet your local museum development team.

Refreshments will be available on the day, but lunch is not included. STEAM does host the Platform One café and other cafes nearby.
