A peer review is where one organisation looks at and comments on another similar organisation to give it ideas for improvement. Peer Reviewers usually come from a similar working environment as the Host. In this way two-way learning can be achieved. Peer Reviewers act as a ‘critical friend’ in helping the Host to improve, offering constructive criticism and making suggestions.
This toolkit, comprising guidance and templates, has been produced to help museums to participate in effective peer reviews. The toolkit was developed by the Mary Rose Trust as part of 2015 project funded by the South East Museum Development with the participation of WIRP (Working Internationally Regional Project). The project aimed to establish, test and disseminate a collaborative peer-to-peer model of support between international museum partners, through supporting, evaluating and disseminating learning from the Mary Rose Trust’s partnership with the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, Sweden.
Other project outputs are a seminar on international peer exchanges at the Mary Rose Museum in October 2015, a case study and an associated video.
