Care of Textile Collections

This half day course intends to be an introduction to the basics of caring for a textile (or textile-based) collection. Topics covered will include;
– An introduction to textile conservation
– The materials and agents of deterioration
– Handling, storage and display of textiles
– Basic cleaning principles
The course will include talks, exercises and opportunities for hands-on practice working with a variety of textiles. Participants are invited to bring photos or textile objects for advice and discussion with the group.
Sarah Glenn ACR is a freelance textile conservator. After working at the V&A Museum for over ten years as a senior textile conservator, she now focuses her time on her textile conservation company, Atelier Nine. Currently she consults for a variety of clients ranging from private collectors, dealers, museum collections and private archives.
