How can museums work effectively with freelancers?

A freelance team member can bring in valuable skills to your team, from supporting a larger grant application to developing new polices and plans.

However, finding, commissioning, briefing, working with and paying freelancers and consultants can seem daunting, so we have brought together a range of resources to help you in finding your way.

The Association of Independent Museums (AIM) produced a handy guide to sourcing freelancers and consultants in 2018, which provides information on how to find the person that suits your organisation best and how to manage the relationship effectively.

Freelance Contracts

There are a wide range of freelance contract templates available for free online, some of which are listed below. These are a great place to start, but don’t forget to consult your own governance policies to reflect your organisation’s employment liabilities.
