Making Connections is a new initiative that encourages teachers to explore how to use local museums to support the delivery of the Curriculum in meaningful and creative ways.
The scheme sows the seeds of what we hope will grow into a sustainable, longer-term partnerships between schools and their local museums.
The main objective of the scheme is to support the continuing professional development of teachers and museum educators as they explore new ways of working whilst devising and delivering a new activity or resource for the school and/or museum to use.
Making Connections is supported by South East Museum Development (SEMD) and Artswork with funding from Arts Council England.
This project supports the Inclusivity and Relevance investment principle and the Creative People outcome in Arts Council England’s Let’s Create strategy for the cultural sector.
Case Studies and any tangible resources that are created will be hosted on both the SEMD and Artswork websites as part of the project legacy.
How it works
We are looking to recruit three cohorts comprised of one (or a small cluster) of museums, and one (or a small cluster) of schools from the counties listed below.
- Hampshire / Solent / Berkshire
- Oxfordshire / Buckinghamshire
- Surrey / East Sussex / West Sussex
- A £3000 grant will be awarded (from SEMD) to the host museum from each sub-region to cover the cost of the project
- In June/July 2022, Artswork and SEMD will host an introductory meeting between the local museum(s) and school partners to discuss and agree an outline for the partnership project.
- From September to December 2022, the partnership (museum & school) will deliver the project.
- In February 2023, Artswork will host a meeting for all delegates to share their learning. Case Studies are submitted and any newly created resources to be finalised.
- February/March 2023, case studies and resources to be uploaded onto the SEMD website and the Artswork website.
