The Art of Giving 3: Preparing for a cash-free world

Event Date:19 October 2022 10:00 am — 19 October 2022 1:00pm

South East Museum Development and Share Museums East would like to offer their museums the opportunity to learn more about the ‘art of giving’, the ways in which visitors add value to their visit through donations. Visitor donations are often vitally important to the ongoing financial sustainability of museums, and we wish to support museums in remaining relevant, gaining new skills and becoming more sustainable in the long term.

We have partnered with Apollo Fundraising to deliver 3 online training sessions, where participants will learn about visitor psychology, look at case studies and at what inspires people to give. Finally, we will focus on how museums can prepare for the cash free world and look at the potential options for promoting and facilitating giving both remotely and on site.

This training offer supports the Dynamism investment principle in Arts Council England’s Let’s Create strategy for the cultural sector.

Session 3 – Preparing for a cash-free world

19 October 2022 10am-1pm

With cash on the decline museums are going to need more than a whirly donation box to enable people to give. Through this half-day session we will explore the different cashless donation channels available to museums.

We’ll look at how to know which ones to use (and, more importantly, which ones not to invest in), how to get the most out of each channel, how to choose the right provider for you and how these opportunities to donate can complement the other things your museum wants people to do.
