Creating Sustainable Partnerships: Part One and Part Two

This course focuses on how museums can create sustainable partnerships with local communities ensuring equitable partnerships that are embedded in museum planning to ensure long term outcomes.
Delivered by Caroline Marcus and Tali Krikler from GEM, this two-session course is delivered over a month and will include guest speakers and examples of best practice from the sector to explore how museums can work towards embedded long-term and meaningful community participation.
The two part course will be underpinned by relevant resources and reading materials, as well as an opportunity for participants to share ideas and experiences from their own working practice.

- Part One: Thursday 19 May 10am - 12pm
- Part Two: Thursday 16 June, 10am - 12pm
By the end of this two-session course we will have:
- explored how museums can develop lasting, meaningful and equitable relationships creating a focus for the community
- introduced examples of a range of community partnerships and models of practice across the UK
- signposted participants to a resources to support future work
Participants will be:
- more confident in exploring/forming community partnerships
- understanding how to make existing partnerships more sustainable.
- plan to apply some of the learning into their current/future practice
Tutors/speakers
This course will be delivered by GEM Course Directors Caroline Marcus and Tali Krikler and will be supported by Rachel Tranter Director.

Caroline Marcus is a producer, programmer and change maker in the cultural sector. She has a proven track record in strategic management with 25 years experience as an independent museum consultant, qualified primary school teacher and former chair of governors. She manages a diverse portfolio of museum and gallery learning, access and engagement projects through her consultancy Caroline Marcus Associates.
Tali Krikler is an experienced learning and participation specialist who has produced, designed and led a broad range of projects and resources within museum, heritage, cultural, health and business settings. Tali’s passion lies in the possibilities objects offer to explore and uncover stories, challenge perceptions, share ideas and start conversations. Tali has created innovative outreach resources for schools, challenged young people to interpret objects using stop-frame animation, conceived and delivered workshops for Syrian refugees and designed and co-produced object boxes that spark curiosity and address sensitive topics such as mental health in an original and engaging way.
