Keep it legal – volunteering risk toolkit
Publisher: Institute for Volunteering Research and Volunteering England
Author(s) : Katharine Gaskin
Year of publication: 2006
This toolkit draws on the results of research carried out by the Institute for Volunteering Research for the Volunteering Hub, with funding from the Home Office. This publication responds to the research findings by explaining the risks associated with volunteers and proposing how to deal with them. It is a resource for any organisation that involves volunteers – whether in the voluntary, statutory or private sector – and aims to simplify risk management for organisations just getting to grips with risk.
The toolkit offers: information on the main risks, legal liabilities, insurance; advice and guidance on setting up and implementing systems; methods and templates for techniques, tools and forms; case studies describing examples of organisations’ good practice; and further sources of information and places to find out more.
This report can also be read in conjunction with ’On the Safe Side’, the full research report which draws together findings from all of IVR’s and Volunteering England’s work on volunteering and risk
