LAINet seminar: 'Museums for all'

This LAINet event will focus on how museums can ensure that they are accessible to people with physical or mental impairments. Four Hampshire Solent museums will share examples of work that they have done to improve access to the museum for visitors, staff and volunteers. There will be opportunities to share your own work and to get other LAINet members' ideas for how you can improve access to your museum.

1.00-1.10 Welcome and introduction (Clare Barnes, Mary Rose Museum)
1.10-2.10 Case studies and panel discussion
- Royal Armouries Fort Nelson: Welcoming visitors with Special Educational Needs, focusing on work with people with Autism (Eileen Clegg)
- Conan Doyle Collection: Involving blind and partially sighted people in the collections, through the RNIB CultureLink project (Laura Weston)
- Mary Rose Museum: Including people with learning difficulties in volunteering (Trevor Sapey)
2.10-2.45 Workshop activity: sharing good practice, learning from each other

3.00-4.00 Guided visit to Basing House focusing on accessibility improvements (Chris Elmer)
