Location:The Guildhall Museum, Sandwich, Kent Salary:£20,000 - £22,500 Main duties:

Coordinate the day-to-day running of the Museum and its team of enthusiastic volunteers to achieve maximum participation and enjoyment; to plan, promote and coordinate tours and rolling exhibitions. Working alongside the Museum and Archives Committee, generate a forward plan for the Museum. To undertake marketing of the Museum through diverse communication streams, maintaining an up-to-date and relevant social media presence. To keep abreast of best practice within the sector, identifying and introducing improvements as appropriate.

General role responsibilities:

  • To ensure the Museum remains open between 10am and 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday
  • To manage enquiries regarding donations and viewings
  • To be responsible for overall management of the Museum
  • To carry out annual review, working alongside Museum and Archive Committee to update and amend the museum forward plan
  • To manage, run, and promote tours of the Guildhall
  • To assist management with the Winter Interreg Programme
  • To co-ordinate all elements (including production and proofing) of rolling museum exhibitions and interpretations, three per year.
  • To plan and co-ordinate the promotion of programme of events
  • To liaise with external promoters, artists and organisations to co-promote new opportunities, where appropriate
  • To create and distribute press releases and bulletins to positively promote the Museum
  • To provide reports relating to visitor numbers, establishing an evaluation framework, generating audience insights to inform planning and resource allocation
  • To ensure familiarity with all Fire and Health and Safety procedures and provide advice and training for volunteers, as required
  • To deliver evening exhibition or lecture events, ensuring excellent visitor experience
  • To keep up to date with best practice in the sector and implement new approaches to ensure volunteers and visitors receive the best experience possible

Museum Volunteers responsibilities:

  • To manage the Volunteers as primary point of contact, using best practice in the cultural sector to develop the volunteer programme
  • To manage volunteers timetabling, ensuring rotas run smoothly, ensuring adequate cover is always in place
  • To ensure that the professional disciplines of volunteer roles are maintained.
  • To offer support and training to volunteers, where required
  • To nurture a committed, friendly atmosphere with volunteers, offering advice and support where necessary
  • To oversee the recruitment, induction and training of volunteers, augmenting and diversifying the current team through new recruitment strategies and community partnerships

Additional responsibilities:

  • To re-evaluate and manage the Museum’s website; source and circulate relevant materials to update
  • To co-ordinate all elements of marketing, including generating engaging material for communication, promotions, and marketing activity, including emails, blogs, and social media channels, thereby developing positive audience activity
  • To ensure improved social media presence that is current and relevant
  • To undertake any additional duties as may be reasonably required, such as occasional Committee meeting representation to provide Museum update
