The Sussex Archaeological Society is at a key stage of its development, with significant opportunity for growth, but a need to improve its financial position swiftly. The Board of Trustees is looking for an experienced and innovative leader for 90 staff and over 300 volunteers and 3,000 members, to transform and develop the Society. The Interim Chief Executive will be someone with the drive, entrepreneurialism and creativity to energise and mobilise a wide range of stakeholders.

The postholder will need to ensure that the cost savings already decided upon are delivered and new revenue opportunities accurately forecast. Working to the Board, you will need to ensure that the charity becomes financially secure over the 12 months of the contract.

As a result, we are looking for someone who has held a senior leadership role in a Charity, essentially in the heritage sector with a sound understanding of archaeology and/or history and the operation of museums. You will have a proven track record in generating income from a variety of sources and will have a clear vision on how to engage with our membership and harmonise the various elements of the Society’s work. Strong leadership skills are essential including enjoying getting the best out of people.
