Location:Portsmouth Salary:£29,557 - £32,233 Main duties:

To effectively fulfil the role described above a range of skills and experience is required including:
 A passion for museum collections and a track record of using them to engage and inspire diverse
audiences including families
 Excellent communication, organisational and project management skills to engage participants and
co-ordinate input from a variety of contributors
 Commitment to community engagement and working with volunteers
 Experience of hands-on delivery and co-ordinating activity and events programmes
 A track record of partnership working and collaboration with a range of organisations
 A creative thinker, with a flexible approach and innovative way of working
 Use of evaluation
 Experience of managing budgets
 Experience of managing staff and volunteers, freelance artists and other specialists
 Flexible and available to work evenings and weekends to facilitate delivery
 Experience of putting Health and Safety and Safeguarding into practice
 A clean driving licence would be preferred
 Able to lift and carry boxes of objects

Portsmouth Museums operates six museums in the city. Our collections are inspiring, engaging and
relevant, supporting learning, wellbeing and place-making.

The role of the Engagement Officer is to ensure that a diverse audience is able to engage with the
city’s collections in different ways at our museums and other locations across the city.
Your priority will be to develop and co-ordinate delivery of an activity and events programme targeted
at a range of audiences, particularly families. You will contribute to exhibitions and projects, also
developments which support a coproduction model of engagement. You will remain up to date with
developments in museum practice, be an advocate for evaluation, and will develop networks and
partnerships to reach new audiences.

It is anticipated that you will recruit, train and supervise volunteers to support your work. You will
contribute to strategy, business and action plans and reports.
