Director of Creative Programme, The Story Museum

Location:Oxford Salary:£40,000-£45,000 Main duties:

The Creative Programme Director will advance The Story Museum’s mission to enrich lives through stories by leading an imaginative and impactful Creative Programme in the Museum and in the community, which connects with audiences, includes our diverse communities and is financially and environmentally sustainable. In particular they will:

1. Lead the Creative Programme team in the strategic development, delivery and evaluation of a financially-sustainable and ambitious public programme of inspiring, imaginative exhibitions and events, underpinned with learning and targeted participation activities for children, young people and families
2. Oversee delivery of the Museum’s heritage strategy, including how we care for and preserve our intangible and tangible Collection of stories and story-related objects, and its ongoing research and interpretation
3. Ensure that our work is inclusive and relevant to a diverse audience by putting them at the front and centre of the creative process
4. Be an active member of the Executive team, leading policy and practice, motivating their team to achieve high quality work and embodying our values

The Story Museum is seeking a Director of Creative Programme to lead our creative offer to families, children and young people, within and outside our Museum, as well as on-line. This is a new post, bringing together Exhibitions, Events, Learning, Participation and Collections, with a mandate to inspire and influence. The successful candidate will have a breadth of experience at a senior level in the arts and/or heritage sector and well-honed skills as a creative practitioner or producer. They will be knowledgeable about stories and their potential to enrich lives; they will be demonstrably committed to the inclusion and participation of diverse audiences.

The Director of Creative Programme will join the Executive team to lead a talented group of creative, heritage and learning practitioners. We are an ambitious organisation with a committed and enthusiastic team; this role is a great opportunity for someone who is willing to jump on board, move fast and imagine the impossible.
