INTRODUCTION

Petworth House and Garden is one of the National Trust’s most significant properties. Since the seventeenth century Petworth has been instrumental in nurturing now legendary artists and makers, providing the space to be inspired, to share ideas and to create work. Exciting times are ahead at Petworth – its Transformation Project is about to shine a light on an enduring spirit of creativity and is set to re-ignite its historic past with the same studio spirit over 200 years later.

From 2020 Petworth will become a place where world-class contemporary artists and makers come to be inspired and to make new work. Their creative response will in turn shape a public programme that will position Petworth as an important centre for creativity and arts learning that has broad appeal and is accessible to all.
