I’ve worked in museums as a curator, museum development officer and in a freelance capacity. I began my career at the Dorset County Museum as a natural history curator, but working in a museum with a small staff inevitably gives you experience of all aspects of collections care, exhibitions, working with the community, management and fundraising. From 2007 to 2011 I was the MDO for South London (employed by MLA-London and the Museum of London) and helped several museums through their Accreditation applications. Since then I’ve worked as a freelancer on projects such as the Sharing Sherlock community engagement project for Portsmouth Museums and Archives Service, as volunteer recruitment and training consultant for the Public Catalogue Foundation’s Your Sculpture project and on lots of documentation plans.
Having worked mainly in the independent sector, I have a lot of experience of charity management and governance. I ran MLA-London’s board development programme for independent museums and served on the Accreditation governance working party. I’ve also been a charity trustee, local councillor and Accreditation mentor.
