Social Media: Creating Engaging Content and Analysing Your Performance

Friday 26th January 2018

Social Media: Creating Engaging Content and Analysing Your Performance

Generously funded by Swale Borough Council and led by Alec Ward from Museum Development London, this session merges two half day workshops into a full day session looking at social media. The day will focus on introducing and using social media as a marketing tool that gets results for the heritage sector. You will be given examples of how other heritage attractions have used social media to boost engagement and attendance using analytic tools.

Whilst we would be delighted if you would find it useful to stay for the whole day, we recognise that people's level of understanding about social media is mixed. So depending on your learning needs, you have the option of booking for just half a day (morning or afternoon session depending on your requirements) or you can book to stay for the whole day. Your choice needs to be specified on the booking form. A light lunch will be provided by Swale Borough Council for those attending both training sessions. Please state if you have any special dietary requirements in the booking form.

The morning session, Using Social Media, is for people who already have social media platforms and use them now and then, but are looking to improve their use of those platforms.Included in this session you will find out about how arts and culture organisations are currently using the three main social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You will learn about some of the recent changes to the platforms and how those platforms may change over the coming years. You will leave with ideas for creating engaging and exciting content for your audiences.

The afternoon session, Social Media Analytics, is an introduction to analytics – for beginners to analyse social media data and audiences. You will learn how to use Facebook and Twitter’s in-built analytics to get a better understanding of how your content is performing. You will also be given an introduction to Facebook Insights and Twitter Analytics as well as some ideas to get you started in analysing your content.

Please note that priority for places goes to members of the Swale Museums Networking Gp, who are currently applying for charitable status to become known as 'Historic Swale'. This session has been designed in partnership with that group and has been tailored to their needs. There are places available for museums in the rest of Kent and Medway and the day will be of benefit to all involved in running a museum.

To get the most out of the day, we suggest that you bring with you a laptop and tablet / mobile device.
