Mary Rose Trust - urgent request
The Mary Rose Archaeological Services (MRAS) are acting on behalf of Southend Museum Services to trace any artefacts which may have been lifted from the London 1656 (a designated wreck). The London was a 64 gun, second-rate ship of the line, which exploded and then sank on 7th March 1665, with the loss of three hundred lives. The wreck is of unique importance as a rare time capsule of a commonwealth warship. The Southend Museum are in the early stages of planning an exhibition, and MRAS have been asked to locate any artefacts from the London 1656, which may be in private or public ownership in order to assess their suitability for display.
If you have any information regarding artefacts from the London 1656, please can you email the originator, Matthew Coumbe (tel: 023 9236 1089). All information will be dealt with in strict confidence.
