Reviewing and Rationalising: 'Interesting, practically helpful and relevant from start to finish'

Consultant Emma Chaplin, provided a really useful and enjoyable one-day workshop in Winchester last week.

'Reviewing and Rationalising - steps to making the most of your Collections' looked at collections development in a holistic way, introduced practical tools for review and rationalisation. It was a full house, with participants from fifteen Hampshire Solent Museums plus one from Dorset. They had the opportunity to try out the tools and consider how they could work in their own museums.

There was plenty of useful peer support generated by the event: it featured an inspiring case study presented by Marie Fowler from Carisbrooke Castle Museum and there was lots of opportunity to network and progress ideas together with an enthusiastic and friendly group of peers.

The event was hosted by the Gurkha Museum and took place in the elegant surroundings of the  Macdonald Gallery, overlooked by portraits of Her Majesty The Queen, Prince Chales and many distinguished military officers.

Here is just some of the feedback from the session:

'Thank you for an absolutely superb, informative, useful day, it was worth the journey'
'Really enjoyed the presentations from Emma and Marie, lovely venue'
'Excellent - very informative'
'Interesting, practically helpful and relevant from start to finish'
'Nice cake!'

This was the second of two Accreditation-focused workshops delivered in partnership with our Museum Development colleagues in the South West. Both have been very well received and we look forward to continuing to develop our partnership working with South West colleagues.
