Support for museum volunteering and charitable museums from NCVO

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) is the largest umbrella body for the voluntary and community sector in England. It was started in 1919 as a the National Council of Social Services, following a £1,000 legacy from Edward Vivian Birchall who died of wounds in France during the First World War.

In 2013 it merged with Volunteering England and the new combined organisation provides a wide range of advice on managing an effective charity, governance, volunteering, fundraising and more. There are many useful resources available to organisations and many of its events are open to non-members too.

Events coming up this year include The Trustee’s Role in Sustainable Funding and Trading and enterprise for voluntary organisations. Charities with an income under £30,000 can join free of charge. Find out more.
