Commonwealth War Graves Commission - new resource for First World War Centenary
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) has announced the launch of an exciting new education resource to help teachers engage students in the Centenary of the First World War.
Virtual Cemetery is an online, interactive tool for the classroom, and is packed with thought-provoking activities and lesson plans for Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils studying Citizenship, History and Religious Studies. Designed for use on an interactive whiteboard, the resource is also accessible through PCs and laptops.
CWGC Education Coordinator, Kate Marshall, explained; “The idea for the Virtual Cemetery was originally a very simple one. We wanted to create an introductory resource for teachers to use that takes their students back to the basics of the relevance of the CWGC and the importance of our work".
“Through the use of ‘hotspots’, linked to videos and image galleries, you will be able to discover more about the history and relevance of the CWGC, the work of our staff, the features of our cemeteries and memorials and learn about the 1.7 million men and women we commemorate around the world.”
