New Expressions 3 (NE3)
New Expressions 3 (NE3), a national pathfinder project, has just been launched as a collaboration between contemporary visual artists, museums and historic places.
NE3 explores, pioneers and shares ways in which museums and contemporary visual artists can collaborate to invigorate collections, historic places and creative practice through high quality, participative projects and compelling visitor experiences.
Funded by a major national award from Grants for the Arts, NE3 is taking place during 2014 and 2015 in the South West, North and Midlands Arts Council areas.
NE3 and Contemporary Visual Arts Network, working in partnership with Visual Arts South West taking the lead in managing the scheme, have developed the New Opportunities Award - a completely new award which will resource 6 -10 small scale, experimental or innovative, artist-led museum interventions, selected in open competition. Providing quality thresholds are met, at least half of the awards will support contemporary visual artists and museums with little/no previous experience of joint collaboration.
Eligible museums may like to consider approaching an artist to develop a proposal and should also be alert to the possibility that they may be approached by an artist or an independent curator in the coming months, to discuss a possible collaboration. Early indications suggest that competition for the award will be high.
The scheme is to be formally launched on 29 January at M Shed, Bristol and the deadline for receipt of proposals is 17 March 2014.
