Volunteers – For life, or for Christmas? London

Monday 25th February 2019

This one day training course will look at practical ways of recruiting and managing volunteers, with examples from a range of museums. It will include recruiting volunteers for responsible roles such as trustees, developing documentation and conservation projects using volunteer support and how to run volunteer open days. It will also cover ways of diversifying your volunteer workforce, and will explore new types of volunteering (remote volunteering and micro-volunteering).

By the end of this training, you will:

  • Have seen example of how other museums have developed projects to recruit volunteers for responsible roles and for challenging projects;
  • Be aware of the practicalities of recruiting volunteers through websites, open days, open advertisements;
  • Understand how museums are diversifying their volunteers through non-traditional volunteering such as remote volunteering, micro-volunteering and community engagement projects;
  • Understand where to go for support and funding.

Please book your place through Smart Survey here.

To ensure fair distribution, only one representative from each museum can book a place on this training course. Additional bookings from the same museum will go on to a reserve list. Places on this training course will be confirmed by email.
