Exploring Intangible Cultural Heritage in Museum Contexts

Thursday 18th October 2018

The ICOMOS-UK Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee is delighted to invite you to the launch of the report:

‘EXPLORING INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE IN MUSEUM CONTEXTS’.

This report summarises the development, implementation and independently evaluated findings of ICOMOS-UK’s catalyst project.

Funded by ACE, this developmental project was delivered in collaboration with ACE and four museums: Hastings Museum & Art Gallery, Weald and Downland Living Museum, Museum of Cambridge and Peterborough Museum and Arts Gallery, and diverse bearer or practicing communities in the South East Region. It charts innovative processes used in interpreting collections in different museum settings and their surrounding landscapes. Lessons learned highlight how practicing communities –guardians of cultural traditions, collective memories, history, rituals and social practices etc. – are vital to making collections and museum spaces alive and relevant to contemporary society; to the involvement of artists as intermediaries between the diverse bearer communities and cultural organisations and underline why museums need to review and recast their physical and practice boundaries.

Date: Thursday, 18th October 2018

Time: 11.00am - 1.00pm

Venue: The Gallery (75 Cowcross Street, London EC1M 6EL)
