Oxfordshire Museums Service is seeking a new Curatorial Assistant to work with the county's archaeological collection. The Museum Service is responsible for collecting and curating archaeological archives from throughout the county, and recent increases in developer-funded archaeology have resulted in an increased workload.

The role will primarily involve accessioning new material into the collection, liaising with professional archaeological units, completing all the related administrative tasks, and preparing older archives to be moved to off-site storage. You will also involve some wider duties, such as working with the collections and exhibitions, answering enquiries from the public and open days.

Job Purpose:

The Oxfordshire Museums Service works to preserve, promote enjoyment of and provide access to the county collections through The Oxfordshire Museum, partner museums, and outreach work. The Museums Resource Centre, where this post is based, provides storage facilities for the collection, museum services, conservation care, and access for researchers.

The post holder will be responsible for the deposition of new archaeological archives and associated administrative duties, and recording the deposited material on the museum’s database using Modes Complete. The post holder will also, with assistance from the Curator of Archaeology and museum volunteers, prepare archive material for transfer to off-site storage facilities and help with the transport and delivery of material.

This post holder is responsible for ensuring that all relevant County policies and procedures are adhered to and concerns are raised in accordance with these policies
