BBC Civilisations

The workshops are a unique opportunity for you to see digital tools in action and explore ideas about how they could be used to create digital experiences (including showcasing items from your collections) to accompany Civilisations Festival activity. You'll be able to see examples of the tools, hands on demonstrations and practical advice on how they could be used by your organisation.

As they’ll feature items from your collections, we'd encourage a range of colleagues with a range of expertise to come along.  We’d suggest colleagues who have practical experience of curation, those involved in digital programme activities and digital experts who will be using the tools to attend.

These are free workshops run by the expert staff from the BBC's digital Research and Development teams. They'll be there to guide you through this exciting new project and the opportunities it offers your organisation to interact with audiences in a digital space. People with all levels of expertise are welcome. Our teams may be able to offer further support to your organisation as the project develops.

The workshop dates in England:

Thursday 5th October  - London (near Wood Lane/White City tube)

Wednesday 11th October - York

Thursday 12th  October - Manchester

Tuesday 17th October – Bristol  (BBC Bristol)

They will run from 2 - 4pm. There will be workshops taking place in Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales. We’ll let you have those dates as soon as possible.

If you or your colleagues would like to attend any of the workshops across the UK, please email civilisations@bbc.co.uk , with ‘workshop’ in the Subject field and where you’d like to attend as soon as possible. If you can’t send names at this point, we’re able to reserve spaces for organisations and you can let us know exactly who’ll attend later. We’ll then send the full details for each location.

After the workshops, your organisation will need to confirm it wants to be part of some of the digital projects by the end of October 2017. This includes the Augmented reality App, where we’ll work together sharing the expertise of our digital engineers. We may only be able to offer only a small number of organisations to join the App project after that.  For other digital tools, the deadlines will vary from late autumn into early 2018.

If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d be delighted if you can make it - and encourage museums, libraries and galleries to get involved as soon as possible to benefit fully from what's on offer.
