Sustainability Project Sharing Day

28th March 2018, Kelmscott Manor, Lechlade, GL7 3HJ

Kelmscott Manor invites museums from around the area to come and find out more about their Arts Council England Resilience funded sustainability project and the Manor's plans, and to hear about what they have learnt.

In a time of political and economic uncertainty and an ever increasing demand on resources, Kelmscott Manor is looking for innovative ways to increase its profile and become more sustainable so that the Manor and its heritage will continue to attract visitors and be maintained for future generations. The day will feature talks about the project and also a talk by a professional fundraiser with a specialism in museums.

Lunch will be provided and a tour of the beautiful property will also be offered. The manor, famed for their cream teas, has been described as an 'utterly beautiful slice of heaven', and this is a day not to be missed!

The 2017 Family Friendly Museum Award is now launched

Friday 2nd June 2017

The 2017 Family Friendly Museum Award is launched, giving you and your visitors the chance to say why your museum, gallery, heritage site, science centre or historic home gives the warmest welcome to families. The Award is the biggest museum award in the country – and the only one where families decide the winner.

Nominations can be made by anyone – front of house, marketing, the director, volunteers, curators, café workers. You can even invite your visitors to nominate you. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a giant National museum or a tiny two-room local gallery. You can be volunteer-run or boast a team of curators. You can be best known for your outstanding collection of French 19th Century porcelain or be alive with high-tech interactives (or both!). What matters most is that you go that extra mile to provide an excellent family friendly experience.

Give as much detail as possible about your museum. What is so special about your offer to families? What do you do that really stands out? Tell them lots – we love to hear about all your efforts and achievements. Take a look at the Kids in Museums Mini Manifesto. How does your museum match up to the Mini Manifesto’s 8 points on how to make a museum family friendly? Use the Award as an opportunity for a family friendly audit, using the Kids in Museums Mini Manifesto as a guide. Consult your visitors and include their feedback in your nomination.

How to send in a nomination:

Click here and complete the form.
This year they have created an online form to make it quick and easy to nominate your museum. If you are not able to complete the online form, they can accept nominations by email or post.

Email: and say why you think your museum should win. If you are sending large documents, please send as hard copy to the address below, not as attachments.
