Security Review 'sharing day'

Accredited museums must obtain expert and objective security advice for collections at least every five years and plan to implement any recommendations.  We are interested to find out if there are museums in west Kent who are due a review of their security arrangements and would benefit from a 'sharing day' with a consultant security advisor to help meet the Accreditation requirement. Please contact joanna.low@brighton-hove.gov.uk to register your interest.

SPECTRUM 5.0 consultation draft

SPECTRUM gives tried-and-tested advice on the things all museums do when managing their collections. Some of these are daily activities, such as moving objects around and updating location records. Others are occasional, like updating insurance cover. SPECTRUM calls all these activities procedures and there are 21 of them. The eight most important are the primary procedures. Each has:

  • A short note on the scope of the procedure.
  • The SPECTRUM standard for the procedure, including:
  1. policy questions;
  2. the minimum requirements you should aim to achieve, however you do it.
  • A suggested workflow for the procedure.
  • Suggested step-by-step guidance as a text document you can adapt to meet your own needs.

On the web page for each procedure you will find a comments section where you can give Collections Trust your feedback and also read what other people think. Collections Trust want to make SPECTRUM 5.0 as clear as possible, so if you have any questions about any of the draft text or workflow diagrams, please don't hesitate to ask.

Collections Trust hope to publish the final version of SPECTRUM 5.0 in summer 2017.
