Security Review 'sharing day'

Accredited museums must obtain expert and objective security advice for collections at least every five years and plan to implement any recommendations.  We are interested to find out if there are museums in west Kent who are due a review of their security arrangements and would benefit from a 'sharing day' with a consultant security advisor to help meet the Accreditation requirement. Please contact joanna.low@brighton-hove.gov.uk to register your interest.

LAINet goes with a bang!

There was a great turnout for last Thursday's education-focused events: 'History Teaching in Primary Schools' and 'Guided Visit for Museum Educators' followed by the relaunch of LAINet, the Hampshire Solent Museums' Learning, Access and Interpretation Network.

Royal Armouries, Fort Nelson - possibly Britain's loudest museum - proved a perfect venue for the events. As well as seeing some great museum education practice, some of us also ventured out to hear the lunchtime firing of a World War 2 Howitzer.

Back indoors, the launch event produced lots of excellent ideas for LAINet activities, ample offers of venues and resources and, most importantly, a good number of volunteers to make it happen. This working group will meet towards the end of the year, to start planning the LAINet programme for 2014.

People also used Fort Nelson's classroom iPads to sign up for the LAINet LinkedIn group and for this newsletter, making sure they'll be kept in the loop as things progress.
