Job Opportunity: Community Engagement Manager, Canterbury Cathedral

Canterbury Cathedral is a working church of local, national and global significance. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury and an historic pilgrimage spanning 1,400 years. The Cathedral’s stunning architecture and its unique role in the nation’s history have inspired generations and currently attracts more than a million visitors a year to the city of Canterbury.

The Canterbury Journey represents a major five-year development of Canterbury Cathedral. The programme will conserve and safeguard this beautiful building’s heritage for future generations and enrich the experience of those who visit.

This essential work is possible thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund total grant of £13.8 million and the generosity of trusts and individuals in the UK and USA who have given £10.9 million through the Canterbury Cathedral Trust, as well as The Friends of Canterbury Cathedral.

They are now looking for an organised and imaginative Community Engagement Manager who can reach out and engage new and diverse audiences with one of Europe's most historically important buildings, its architecture, traditional crafts and collections through a range of community activities, creative projects and wider learning.

The successful candidate will create strong links between the Cathedral, the wider communities and partners. Applicants will need sound experience in effectively developing, managing and delivering a programme of activities aimed at new, young and diverse audiences, which has a wide appeal to all ages and levels of learners; including creative workshops, outreach, events, facilitating audience panels, presentations, volunteer recruitment and training.

This exciting 4 ½ year full time role will require someone who understands the community sector, and the issues affecting heritage sites and museums within this context.
