Job Opportunity: Art Curator, Southampton Art Gallery
Southampton is really coming-of-age as a centre of cultural excellence. We’ve a thriving arts and heritage community with a burgeoning creative renaissance to match our rich history. Southampton City Art Gallery is internationally renowned for its permanent collection which features around 5,300 works. These span eight centuries and tell the story of western art from the Renaissance to the present day. The core of the collection is twentieth century and contemporary British art. Strong clusters within this include Post-Impressionism (notably the Camden Town Group), Surrealism, St Ives and progressive contemporary art from the mid-1970s.
This post contributes to our plans to transform access to visual arts in Southampton through investment in the infrastructure of the gallery, and the wider customer services offer. Southampton City Art Gallery is located within the growing Cultural Quarter, an emerging hive of creative and cultural activity, and with the new Studio 144 Arts Complex opening in 2017, this is an exciting opportunity to join our team and help shape culture within our city.
