Security Review 'sharing day'
Accredited museums must obtain expert and objective security advice for collections at least every five years and plan to implement any recommendations. We are interested to find out if there are museums in west Kent who are due a review of their security arrangements and would benefit from a 'sharing day' with a consultant security advisor to help meet the Accreditation requirement. Job Opportunity: Retail Supervisor, Jane Austen House Museum
3 days per week including Sundays and bank holidays
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic team player to our Retail and Admissions team at Jane Austen’s House Museum as a Retail Supervisor. The Museum is the home of the author Jane Austen from 1809–1817 and the place where she wrote and revised all her major works. As well as being a tourist attraction open 330 days a year, the Museum is a world authority on Jane Austen and is home to the largest collection of Austen family artefacts in the world.
As Retail Supervisor you will have responsibility for the shop on a day to day basis; ensuring that the entrance and shop area are immaculate and that every visitor is extended a warm welcome; that all financial procedures are followed and that all policies are adhered to. Each member of staff is responsible for assisting the team in meeting its financial targets. An acute attention to detail is required to ensure the shop is always fully stocked and well displayed.
The Retail Supervisor will be confident using an EPOS system to sell admission and event tickets, process gift aid donations and retail sales; as well as processing refunds, exchanges and using the back office to process deliveries. The ideal candidate will be confident, excellent at upselling and offering “add-ons” as well as answering visitor questions, have excellent numeracy skills, and an appreciation for the role of retail in an independent museum environment.
The museum and shop are often very busy and you will need to be able to cope well under pressure; while continuously maintaining an excellent level of customer service; processing customers efficiently and confidently. Competency in maths/ basic finance is required to ensure accurate accounting of till takings at the end of the day & week.
The museum will also be opening an online shop in the coming months and the Supervisor will play an important role in assisting the Retail Manager with this in all areas including uploading data and processing orders.
You will be responsible to the Retail Manager and work closely with other members of the team. Between two Supervisors you will ensure that there is full cover over full opening times.
