Trustee Vacancy: Whitchurch Silk Mill Trust

Closing date: Friday 27 May 2016, 9am

Interview date: Monday 6 June / Tuesday 7 June 2016

About the role and the Whitchurch Silk Mill Trust (WSMT)

The WSMT is seeking Trustees to join its Board, whose aim is to be a self-sustaining, living, industrial heritage site, weaving silk and enthralling all who visit. Our goal is to:

  • educate the public in the history of silk production and its connection with Whitchurch
  • preserve the art of silk making
  • secure for the benefit of the public the preservation, restoration, improvement, enhancement and maintenance of features and objects of historical and industrial interest.

Our Trustees are the custodians of the WSMT, responsible for ensuring that our resources are used effectively in pursuit of our main objectives. As a Trustee, you will also have oversight of our strategic vision and hold us accountable to our objectives. Our Trustees' perspectives help to ensure that we remain focused on our charitable objects. In addition to the formal responsibility for governance we are also looking for people with the passion to work with the board and staff to further develop the Silk Mill.

We are looking to recruit people from across the age spectrum, from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds.

If you believe you have skills developed from your professional life combined with the energy, commitment and drive to make a difference and bring a new perspective we are keen to hear from you.

We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who would bring knowledge and/or expertise in the following areas: experience of managing a small / medium business and Quantity Surveyors.

We are based in Whitchurch, Hampshire and you will be required to attend at least six meetings of the Board per year, each lasting between 1-3 hours during the evening.

The term of appointment will be three years initially with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of two further terms (unless there are exceptional circumstances which justify a further term being in the best interests of the WSMT).
