Security Review 'sharing day'
Accredited museums must obtain expert and objective security advice for collections at least every five years and plan to implement any recommendations. We are interested to find out if there are museums in west Kent who are due a review of their security arrangements and would benefit from a 'sharing day' with a consultant security advisor to help meet the Accreditation requirement. The Arts and Heritage service at Southampton City Council operates three accredited museum venues, Southampton City Art Gallery, SeaCity Museum and Tudor House and Garden. The service also has responsibility for a Designated Fine Art Collection, a Designated Archaeology Collection, a very important local history and maritime collection, the Archives Service and Records Management.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Collections Manager to join the Arts and Heritage team The post holder will be responsible managing the care of all collections, ensuring designation standards are maintained, and will work with teams across the venues to ensure visitors enjoy immersing themselves in the stories told by our nationally, and internationally recognised range of heritage and art collections.
The Collections Manager will also be responsible for ensuring the Collections Policy is adhered to, but be prepared to challenge and question the content of the Policy with a view to maintain the collections to the highest standard.
In addition, the post holder will work with the Arts and Heritage Manager to shape and develop the City Archives and Record Management service, including developing application for Designation of the Archives collection.
All three public venues and Archives service will be applying for Accreditation renewal in 2017, the Collections Manager will lead on the renewal process, working with the wider arts and heritage team to ensure that Accreditation renewal is achieved.
