Hampshire Solent Open Forum 2016 - ACE praises local museums for strong partnership ethos
For the third year running, and growing in numbers every year, the Open Forum welcomed 53 delegates from over 30 local museums.
After a warm welcome to Milestones Museum by Sheila Hennings from Hampshire Cultural Trust, Paul Griffiths, the Chair of the Advisory Panel who host the Forum, celebrated the ongoing success of the programme and the impact it is having on museums. He also explained the role of the the Advisory Panel influencing museum development in Hampshire Solent.
Then, Bernard Donoghue, Director of ALVA, gave his key note speech on what evidence he knows from the leading attractions about what makes successful museums. One delegate said later his speech was 'one of the best that I have ever heard'.
After lunch, Lucy Marder, our Cultural Partnership Officer, summarised the work of SEMDP in Hampshire Solent over the past year and introduced the support that would be available in teh year ahead. This was followed by two consultation rounds on key activities planned in 2016-2018 to enable all delegates to have their say about the local museum development programme.
Finally, delegates had the opportunity to join surgery sessions or round table discussions with a range of local, regional and national support groups including ACE, HLF, Artswork, and our local networks.
The day came to an end with the glowing remarks by our ACE Relationship Manager, Sam Rowlands, who praised the museums in Hampshire Solent for their vibrant and supportive partnership ethos.
