Preventive Conservation offer for Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Medway museums
A new year's message from our Preventive Conservation Officer, Emily Nisbet-Hawkins:
Happy new year to all!
I just wanted to remind you all about the preventive conservation support and advice that is on offer to you.
Preventive Conservation Audits – there are more spaces available for free PCAs between now and the end of March. If you are applying for Accreditation or making changes to your collection displays or stores, or would even just like some general advice on how to better manage your collection, a PCA can help. They are tailored to each museum but generally cover the museum environment (temperature, humidity, light etc), collection, display and storage, pest management etc. and give advice on improvements and equipment needed.
Conservation Resource Bank – The resource bank has now been restocked so if you are in need of materials for your new year projects, make sure you take a look and see what might be available to you. Environmental monitors are currently being calibrated but will also be available to you by the end of January, so if you would like to borrow these or would like any materials from the Resource Bank free of charge, please fill in request form found on the website.
Preventive Conservation Training – If you are interested in some conservation training for new or current staff, please fill in the Preventive Conservation Training request form. Training topics include general preventive conservation or can be more specific such as pest management, monitoring and controlling the museum environment, monitoring and controlling light, emergency plans, object handling, object packing etc.
Don’t forget to check out the “Resources” page on our website for more conservation advice.
I am also available on email to answer any questions and queries, so please do get in touch. Wishing you all a prosperous 2016!
