Archaeology in Museums

On Friday 8th February, 16 delegates from museums, big and small, and from various archaeology trusts and societies, joined us at Maidstone Museum for a session on archaeology.

Jennifer Jackson, Kent's Finds Liaison Officer, gave a presentation on her work and the Portable Antiquities Scheme; Sam Harris from Maidstone Museum gave a presentation on how archaeology is addressed in their museum; and in the afternoon, Lis Dyson from Kent County Council led a discussion session on the future plans for archaeology storage in the county.

An archaeology collections mapping exercise (download a copy here) has begun which will help us assess the current situation and address future potential acquisitions as a joined up network of museums and archaeology trusts. I will be following this up shortly with a request for you to supply details from your Acquisition & Disposal policy so please do keep an eye out for that email.

It was a good day, and thank you to all the delegates and speakers. If you would like to receive copies of all presentations and the notes from the day, please email
