Security Review 'sharing day'
Accredited museums must obtain expert and objective security advice for collections at least every five years and plan to implement any recommendations. We are interested to find out if there are museums in west Kent who are due a review of their security arrangements and would benefit from a 'sharing day' with a consultant security advisor to help meet the Accreditation requirement. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest.
Mary Rose Museum raising profile at home and abroad
We're delighted to announce that Dr Eleanor Schofield, conservation manager at the Mary Rose Museum and coordinator of the South Region Conservation Network, has been chosen as one of the Royal Society of Chemistry's '175 Faces of Chemistry' for her work linking science, history and archaeology.
The project is profiling 175 different scientists who represent diversity in its broadest sense and aims to celebrate the diversity of individuals within the scientific community who have helped shape chemistry and science as a whole both past and present and identify role models and ambassadors for the future generation of chemists.
Ellie has been Conservation Manager at the Mary Rose Trust in Portsmouth since 2012, involved in overseeing the conservation of the hull and her many artefacts. Developing treatments, analysing materials and monitoring the stability of storage and display conditions, Eleanor conducts research into new conservation methodologies.
Meanwhile, the Mary Rose Museum's Head of Operations, Paul Griffiths, has just returned from giving a very well received address to the www.museumstoreassociation.org%2F&ei=RW02VcvRGcXaaricgIgN&usg=AFQjCNGyZ0WU_28WlM3kxFsAGdjXGYoMCg">Museum Store Association's Annual Conference in the USA. Of course the MSA is nothing to do with museum storage - it's a leading US forum for heritage retail, which Paul is very well informed about, with responsibility for the Mary Rose Museum's successful retail operations.
Both Ellie and Paul are also great contributor to the South East museums community. Paul is current Chair of the Hampshire Solent Museum Development Advisory Panel. In 2014, Ellie initiated the South Region Conservation Network as a forum for individuals working in the field of museum and heritage conservation - it's now one of the networks supported by the South East Museum Development programme.
