Kent and Medway news

HLF training day

Kent and Medway held a sold out session in partnership with Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) in March. This training session, A Practical Guide to HLF Grant Programmes under £100,000, provided museums with helpful resources and tips to support applications for HLF funding.

If you missed this session, you can still access presentations and share with your staff and colleagues. Click here to view the presentations.

Another session held for Kent and Medway museums was Social Media Training in April. It featured Alec Ward from Museum Development London and Kevin Bacon, Digital Manager, from the Royal Pavilion, Brighton. The focus of the session was to look at social media platforms and how to engage different online audiences.

Upcoming training sessions

Working in collaboration with Collections Trust we will be hosting a SPECTRUM 5.0 training session on the 13th June. This event sold out very quickly so we will be sharing content after the session.

On Wednesday 28th June we are running 'Prove your Point', a workshop focusing on collecting evidence about users and their experience to meet the Accreditation standard and to make successful funding bids. The training will be held at Swale House in Sittingbourne. To book visit the Eventbrite page here.

On Tuesday 11th July our Preventive Conservation Officer, Emily Nisbet-Hawkins, will be running a 'Pests and Environmental Monitoring' training day at Powell Cotton Museum in Birchington. To book visit the Eventbrite page here.

100 Objects that Made Kent

How much do you know about your county’s history? If the answer is “not enough,” the answer lies in a Kent first, a unique and exciting project that gives teachers a new, free on-line educational resource to inspire young people to take a closer look at the rich heritage of where they live. And it’s also available to anyone else who would like to find out more.

'100 Objects that Made Kent' is led by The Historic Dockyard Chatham and supported by five partner museums. The objects are now revealed at www.100objectskent.co.uk, an interactive website which launched on 12th May.  Museum teams identified 90 objects that define the county and invited schools and young people across Kent to complete the list by coming up with 10 more. They range from a Mummified Cat to the iconic Kent Spitfire.
