Help Hub

Welcome to the South East Museums Help Hub.  This section is for anyone and everyone working in the museum, heritage, arts and wider cultural sector in the South East, and beyond.

Whether you need help with something, can offer some support and advice, or just want to put a call out to everyone and introduce yourself – here is the place to do it.

All we ask is that you don’t make personal attacks or use inappropriate language, don’t make references to personal data, and no advertising or promotion of products/services you are trying to sell.  Apart from that, please see this as a useful discussion space where everyone can get involved!

Looking further afield?  Then why not take a look at the national Museum Freecycle UK pages?

Industrial and Agricultural collections for disposal

Milton Keynes Museum is currently undertaking a large review of its collection, starting with larger agricultural and industrial items which are currently stored outside. It includes a wide range of items, a lot are in poor condition and many have poor provenance. I have hopefully attached a full list of the items for disposal (subject to board approval) but last time I tried to attach something I failed... The list is available through the MA find an object site. If you are interested in anything I am happy to send photos or you are welcome to visit and have a look. There are more items which have yet to be listed which may relate to some of these items. Any queries please don't hesitate to ask.

    Table top display cabinet

The Hockey Museum in Woking, Surrey, is looking to borrow a table top display cabinet for our latest exhibition. We'd need to loan it for about 8 months. The dimensions needed are about 1m x 1.5m. The height doesn't really matter; something like minimum 25cm high. If you think you can help, please contact editor@hockeymuseum.net

    Lighting/sound suppliers?

We are looking to upgrade our lighting in two areas on site, namely the cellar and Tudor Kitchen. We are looking to create the atmosphere of a Tudor kitchen as well as generally upgrade the lighting. We are also looking for a supplier that can create "sounds" to give the effect of a working kitchen. Does anyone have any suppliers they could suggest?

    Display cases

I have 3 wall mounted display cases that are no longer needed. They would also work well (possibly better) as table top cases. The glass is unlikely to be safety glass. 2 (1 of which I have hopefully attached a photo of) are from 22cm to 12.5 cm deep; c.76cm wide and 231cm long. The other is 22.9-15.5cm deep; 69 cm wide and 173.5cm long

    Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software

Does anyone have any experience of purchasing CRM software and if so, do you have any advice to give? We've been advised that we need to look at using such a system but have no idea where to start with our research! The New Forest Centre is a small/medium size museum and we want to buy something that's appropriate to our needs. Any advice/information would be much appreciated.
