Caring for Photographic Materials, Surrey
Tuesday 13th November 2018
Time: 10am – 4pm
Location: Surrey History Centre
Note: There is no parking on site for the training session (apart from disabled spaces) but Woking train station is a 15 minute walk from the venue.
This is a comprehensive session to help you with all aspects of caring for photographic collections in museums. The day will be a mix of talks, demonstrations and practical activities, and handouts will be provided for each delegate. The day will cover the following:
- What are photographs?
- Factors that affect photographs and how to manage them
- How to identify different photographic processes and their respective conservation needs
- Methods and materials for storing different types of photographs
- An overview of how conservation can compliment cataloguing and digitisation projects
Who should attend?
Volunteers and paid staff who work with any type of photographic collection who would like to learn more about how to look after these often sensitive materials
You are welcome to bring problem items (or photos of them) for discussion.
Sarah Allen, is a freelance photographic materials conservator based in Somerset. Sarah has over 10 years experience and, together with SW CDO Helena Jaeschke, won the ICON Care of Collections award for the PRIMROSE project developing photographic collections across the South West.
