Learn about social media and how to engage different online audiences - A regional South East Museum Development Event

Alec Ward from the London Museum Development Team, will discuss how museums are currently using social media as a tool for engaging their online audience. The session will focus on three key platforms - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - and the different ways to use the channels. We’ll look at what type of content works well and how you can make the most of your museum’s social media use, through analysing your audience. Finally, we’ll discuss current trends in social media use, how the platforms are changing and the opportunities that these changes present. The session will be packed full of examples of how other museums are using the platforms, so you’ll have plenty to take away to inspire your own social media use.

Kevin Bacon from Brighton Museums will describe how blogging and storytelling have become a key element of the Royal Pavilion & Museums digital activity. The session will look at how to create digital content that is designed for audience needs, and how a blog can be one of the simplest and most effective means of engaging online audiences with your collections and buildings. In addition to using the Royal Pavilion & Museums as an honest case study, it will include practical sessions to help you develop your own ideas for digital content.
