Leicestershire Museums & Galleries

Through its loans collections, Leicestershire's Open Museum aims to make a positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of local people of all ages.

University of Leicester

A Journey into the Mind project started as a means of creating access to museum collections for pupils in hospital schools, who may otherwise not be well enough to visit and benefit from such rich and diverse experiences. Access to objects is made possible virtually through the development of this participatory website, which encourages pupils to access and add to the collection of museum objects through a new interpretive framework: Body, Mind and Spirit.

Dulwich Picture Gallery

On 12 December 2013, Dulwich Picture Gallery held a unique music concert. The concert was the culmination of Visual to Vocal, a collaborative arts and dementia project with English Touring Opera which saw a group of people in their early stages of Dementia and their carers compose a song cycle over eight weeks inspired by the Gallery's Old Master paintings.

National Well-being - online tools

The Measuring National Well-being programme aims to produce accepted and trusted measures of the well-being of the nation - how the UK as a whole is doing. It is about looking at 'GDP and beyond' when evaluating progress of society.

A set of 10 domains, with 41 headline measures, are updated with the latest available data in Spring and Autumn each year. The interactive charts presented here show a selection of measures with further breakdowns such as region and age.

Check out the data online here.  Find out more useful information for your area using the Neighbourhood Statistics tool from the Office for National Statistics website.

Cultural Commissioning Programme

The Cultural Commissioning Programme is a three year Arts Council England funded programme which runs to June 2016. We will deliver a range of workstreams to:

  • help the arts and cultural sector* develop skills and capacity to engage in cultural commissioning
  • enable commissioners to develop awareness and know-how of commissioning arts and cultural organisations to deliver public service outcomes
  • encourage relationships between cultural providers and commissioners
  • influence policy makers and raise the profile of this area of work.
