South East Museum Development Programme Leader
I've been working in and with museums and their staff ever since I caught the 'museum bug' during my time at the University of Brighton, where I studied History of Decorative Arts & Crafts. For my dissertation, I researched propaganda posters aimed at women during World War 2, which took me to various museums and sites.
After graduating, I began volunteering at the Canterbury Heritage Museum working on their Home Front Recall HLF project; I was involved in many areas of work for Canterbury, from documentation and collections management through to exhibition hanging and running children activities, eventually gaining a paid role as front of house staff. It gave me a fantastic flavour into the many opportunities museums can offer.
I soon began working on a part time self employed basis as a freelance documentation officer and carried out projects for 6 museums across Kent, Surrey and Sussex before securing a Curatorial role at East Grinstead Museum in 2008. My four years at East Grinstead were thoroughly enjoyable and I had the opportunity to work on various projects and initiatives and develop my skills. It was while working at East Grinstead, in 2009, that I was appointed part time Museum Development Officer for Kent & Medway, a role I fulfilled until April 2016.
I am now part time Programme Lead for the South East Museum Development Programme (regular working days being Monday, Wednesday and Friday), the rest of week working as Curator of Egham Museum in Surrey. I am also Trustee of East Grinstead Museum in Sussex, Museum Mentor for Ashford Borough Museum in Kent, and Co-Chair of 'Network for Change'.
