Museum Development Officer for Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire & Berkshire
My background is incredibly varied and I have worked in Warwickshire, the West Midlands and Northamptonshire before joining the South East Museum Development Programme. I originally trained as an Archaeologist with the University of Birmingham, specialising in ancient languages. I studied Egyptian Middle Kingdom hieroglyphics and Sumerian cuneiform. However, my career path has been a little unconventional.
I have worked in market research, customer services, the wholefood trade and even as a freelance artist before finding my feet in museums. Working my way up, I started out as a Museum Assistant in Nuneaton and Bedworth Museum and Art Gallery, where I also helped out with curatorial support and research.
I then moved on to Northamptonshire Library Service, where I learnt a great deal about management and customer support.
From there I progressed to working with Arts Council England as an Accreditation Assessor in 2012. During my time there, I assessed almost 400 organisations all over England, from Cumbria to Cornwall. I also developed an in-depth knowledge of the Accreditation Standard, guidance and the assessment process itself. I visited more than 30 different museums, and helped many to achieve full Accreditation and move their museums forwards to greater success. I hope to help many more in my new role as a Museum Development Officer.
