Emily Nisbet-Hawkins

Preventive Conservation Officer for Surrey, East & West Sussex, Kent & Medway

I graduated in 2006 from the University of Lincoln with an MA in Conservation and Restoration of Historic Objects where I developed and interest in gilding. Since then I have been working in a range of institutions including a museum in Sharjah (United Arab Emirates), the Petrie Museum in London and several properties within the National Trust. For the last 7 years I have worked for the National Trust on specific projects and in Regional roles, advising properties on any preventative and remedial conservation problems they might have with their collections.

My role is 2.5 days a week working mainly Monday, Tuesday and alternate Wednesdays. I spend the rest of the week working as a Conservator for the National Trust.

I will be able to provide free advice and training on:

  • Collections, monitoring, packing and storage
  • Environmental monitoring and control
  • Pest management
  • Object handling and transportation
  • Help with supply and ordering of specialist material and equipment
